Food Safety
The environmental department protects the public’s health by ensuring safe food, facilities and practices. Kentucky has adopted the 2013 FDA Food Code and it contains information for opening up a retail food establishment. Everyone working in a food establishment is required to have a Kentucky Food Certification card.
Food Employee Certification (Food Handler) classes are taught at the Pike County Health Department at 9 AM and 3:30 PM on established dates. All food establishments must have a Person in Charge (PIC) during all hours of operation that is certified through the Food Manager class. Food Manager classes are taught are 9 AM on established dates. Please visit our Event Calendar to find the Food Handler or Manager class that works best for you. Appointments are not needed.

Online Food certification process:
- Visit the Food Certification web site: ky-pchd.statecert.com*
- Select "Register" in the upper right-hand corner.
- Enter your information and receive a confirmation email.
- Confirm your email address by clicking the link in the email you received.
- Select "Get New License."
- Select "Food Manager Certification" or "Food Employee Certification (Food Handler)."
- Take the course and test, then print your certificate.
*Each individual will need to register with their own name, demographic information, email address and password.
